How to find football trials and assess an opportunity

A practical guide to finding football trials, checking eligibility and assessing organisers before you apply or pay.

Start with a shortlist, not a promise

Write down your age, preferred position, playing experience, location and realistic travel budget. Use these to compare opportunities. A trial for a particular school year, a development programme and a first-team assessment can serve very different needs.

Search both football trials and soccer tryouts when researching different countries. Look for published dates and application requirements rather than promises of professional contracts. TOUCHLINE Radar groups public previews by country so you can compare these basics before purchasing organiser details.

Check what the session actually offers

Ask whether the event is selection for a named team, entry into an education programme, a training camp or a showcase. Ask who assesses players, how decisions are communicated and what happens after the session. If the answer is unclear, resolve that before committing.

Check the age band, gender, playing level and international eligibility. “Not stated” is an unanswered question. Do not assume that an open trial accepts every age or nationality.

Verify the organiser and current availability

Once you have organiser information, compare it with their official website and published announcement. Confirm the dates, exact venue, application process and whether places remain. A genuine programme can still have an old or fully booked announcement.

Ask for written clarification of anything that affects your decision. Be cautious about guaranteed selection, urgent requests to pay an unrelated person or claims that cannot be checked through an official channel. No discovery website can guarantee your selection.

Calculate the complete cost

Separate the price of information from the organiser’s participation fee. Then allow for travel, accommodation, transport and any programme costs. Ask what each charge covers and what happens if the session is cancelled or you cannot attend.

On TOUCHLINE Radar, registration and public previews are free. €20 EUR unlocks information for one listing. It does not buy a trial place, and any organiser fee is separate. Read the terms and refund policy before purchasing.

Keep a simple decision record

Save the trial ID, the source check time, the answers you received and the organiser’s cancellation conditions. Compare two or three suitable options using the same questions. A clear record helps you avoid paying twice or confusing an information purchase with an application.

For players under 18, involve a parent or legal guardian throughout the application. TOUCHLINE Radar accounts are for adults.
