Confirm the session before planning the day

Read the organiser’s instructions and confirm your application or invitation status. Check the date, arrival time, exact venue, expected duration, footwear rules and what documents you should bring. A listing preview alone is not an invitation to attend.

Check the age band and programme requirements one more time. If you need a parent or guardian to accompany you, arrange that in advance. Ask how a cancellation or last-minute change will be communicated.

Prepare a clear player profile

Create a short, accurate profile with your name, age group, main and secondary positions, current playing level, recent team experience and a contact route. Use genuine information and give dates so the organiser can understand your experience.

If highlights are requested, choose footage that shows your decisions as well as the final action. Include a way to identify yourself in the clip. Follow the organiser’s requested format rather than sending large files or unrelated material. Parents or guardians should handle contact information for minors.

Pack for the actual venue

Use the organiser’s kit list first. Typical practical items to confirm include suitable boots, shin guards, training clothing, water and a change of clothes. Ask about playing surface and weather arrangements rather than guessing.

Keep your invitation or confirmation accessible. Allow enough time for travel and check-in. If travelling from another city or country, avoid non-refundable bookings until your attendance is confirmed.

Make your football easy to assess

Listen to the coaches’ instructions, communicate clearly with teammates and play the role you are assigned. Give the assessors an accurate picture of how you work within a team. Trying to force a highlight in every action can make it harder to understand your normal game.

Ask beforehand how the session is organised and whether feedback is provided. Different organisers use different assessment criteria; there is no universal trick that guarantees selection.

Plan the follow-up

Before leaving, confirm when results are expected and how you will receive them. Record the contact route and any next steps. Follow the organiser’s stated timing rather than repeatedly sending applications.

Whether selected or not, write down what you learned and which parts of your game you want to develop. Keep your player profile up to date for the next suitable opportunity.
